Unit 2 - Lesson 3: Poetic Forms
An Introduction
Craft:
For this first part of the lesson, we'll be learning about how the different forms of poetry and how you can utilize them! Knowing some different forms of poetry will allow you to pick and choose what kind you want to write for a specific idea or emotion. For this lesson, we'll be watching a video put out by the YouTube channel, Reedsy.
The video is linked to the right of this text.

Now we'll be talking about what you just watched and adding on some new knowledge!
The beauty of using poetic forms in modern times is because of the rules. To make a poetic form feel unique, to bring something new to it, you can break some of the rules or bend them! You can change a rhyme or a repeated line slightly. But always remember that any change you make will draw your readers' eyes!
For now, just try and stick to the rules unless you feel a change would bring an aspect of your poem out more! It's always great to try and learn what you can before going off and experimenting on your own!

This is the final step in this lesson. Now you get to put what you learned into practice!
Now that you've seen and read some poetic forms, try to write one of them! If you struggle, that's entirely okay. If you feel like you need more examples, take to the internet and look up poems on Poetry Foundation.
If none of the forms mentioned interest you, try to find some others that might. Try taking a look at Sestinas, Persona Poems, and Abcedarians! Search until you find a promising form!
